Time Commitment: Full Time minimum 35 hours/week

BREAD OF LIFE: OVERVIEW of Organization

Bread of Life is an organization whose mission and vision is devoted to assisting individuals and organizations to live with meaning and purpose based on their spiritual journey and understanding. We see the sacred in everyone and in all of creation. Sometimes we use religious language from a variety of faith traditions and there is no one belief or practice required or promoted. We openly name and focus on the spiritual core and journey while we value integrity, honesty, open dialogue, reflection and the evolutionary integration of Spirit in all we do. An openness to, appreciation for and support of a variety of expressions of the “Mystery greater than any of us” is crucial to success in this position.

 

OVERVIEW of Position:

The Executive Director is responsible for realizing the vision and mission of Bread of Life through generating programs and activities that bring the vision and mission to concrete life.  This work includes recruiting and overseeing staff and volunteers to provide specific programs and activities and reaching out to the broader community to make known and interpret the work of Bread of Life to those who may be drawn to this work as participants, leaders and/or supporters.  The Director is also responsible for generating financial and moral support for Bread of Life.  All this work is done in collaboration with the Board of Directors which provides broad guidance and concrete assistance with the work.  The position also entails overseeing the administrative needs of the organization including but not limited to facilities, payroll, financial oversight and budgeting, social media and communications, and scheduling. Some evening and weekend work will be necessary.

 

This position requires strong collaborative orientation, knowledge of spiritual formation principles and processes, excellent organization and prioritization skills mixed with a friendly demeanor and inviting attitude.  The Director must have personal initiative and the ability to work without direct supervision.  The position requires comfort with technology and the ability to expand virtual and online offerings as well as in person offerings to meet the needs of today’s world.  Must be able to leverage website and social media to maximize reach to our audience. Sufficient familiarity with administrative software to quickly learn programs in use (for direct use or supervision) such as Microsoft Office Suite, Bloomerang (our donor data base), QuickBooks. Google Docs and payroll software is essential. 

 

KEY RELATIONSHIPS: 

1)       Reports directly to the Board which will conduct quarterly check-ins to ensure mutual communication and planning.

2)      Hires and supervises the bookkeeper, administrative assistant, and other office volunteers or staff as necessary for the operation of the Bread of Life Center

3)      Coordinates program work with the Spiritual Direction Intake Coordinator and with program committees of the Community of Practice as assigned by the Board.  

4)     Coordinates with Franciscan Living, our sublessor

  GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

 1)        GOVERNANCE: Works with the board to plan for and fulfill the organization mission.

●        Responsible for leading the Bread of Life Center in a manner that supports and guides the organization’s mission as defined by the Board.

●        Responsible for communicating effectively with the Board, providing timely and accurate information to enable the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.

●        Report to and work closely with the Board to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fund development and to increase the overall visibility of the organization. 

●        Attends board meetings as a non-voting participant.

 

2)       MISSION AND STRATEGYWorks with Board, Community of Practice leadership and staff to ensure the mission is fulfilled through programs, planning and outreach that invites the participation of all intentional spiritual journeyers regardless of circumstance. Responsible for initiating and coordinating planning efforts and implementation, support and ongoing assessment of programs.

●     Partners with the Board and Community leadership team to develop strategic plans that ensure Bread of Life can successfully fulfill its Mission into the future.

●     Responsible for the enhancement of Bread of Life’s presence by being visible in the community and to donors as Bread of Life’s “face to the public” and by seeking appropriate partnerships with other organizations.

●     Oversees marketing and communications efforts.

 

3) FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE AND VIABILITY: Partners with the board in developing and stewarding resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization.

●        Responsible for the fiscal integrity of the Bread of Life Center, including submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.

●        Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensuring maximum resource utilization, and maintenance of the organization in a positive financial position.

●        Works with bookkeeper, financial advisors and any other staff to achieve financial goals.

 

4) OPERATIONS: Hires, trains and supervises staff as needed to ensure that the operations of the organization are appropriate and well-functioning.

●        Responsible for effective administration of Bread of Life Center’s operations including management of office systems and record-keeping to assure a smooth and efficient operation and to meet all legal requirements for a non-profit.

●        Provide oversight of processes and procedures for accounts payable and accounts receivable, and recording, receipting and depositing all income

●        Management of human resource systems including payroll & tracking of benefits

 

5) OTHER DUTIES:  as assigned by the Board.

 

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

1.        Bachelor’s degree, Master degree preferred

2.        Collaborative leadership style

3.       Proven budget management skills, including preparation, analysis, and reporting

4.       Strong organizational skills: planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation

5.       Ability to convey a vision of Bread of Life’s future

6.       Ability to build supportive donor relations and to invite participation

7.       Ability to motivate board members, volunteers and donor groups

8.       Strong written and oral communication skills

9.       Proficiency in administrative software such as Microsoft Office, QuickBooks and Donor databases

10.     Proficiency in a web-based and online environment with IT skills and comfort to assist the organization in developing this side of its outreach
