Contemplative Consciousness in an Age of Pandemic

shadow-mountain-milky-way.jpg

The limits and fault lines of our current ways of life are starkly visible in this time of pandemic.  Even our ways of thinking about life are being fundamentally challenged. Consciousness partnered by mature conscience invites a shift from despair into deep listening that can break open to the “new thing” seeking birth among us. Conscience without consciousness typically serves the status quo. Consciousness without conscience can lead to passivity in a world that needs contemplative action. Wedded, they invite our powerful though costly engagement. All women and men on the spiritual journey must confront the still small Voice of Conscience leavened by maturing Consciousness to be able to stand in integrity and truth. The need is urgent in this moment of profound ‘revolution’ in human awareness inviting nothing less than the emergence of Social Mystics.

The letters of Dietrich Bonhoeffer and Franzenburg Jagerstatter from prison will be used as models of leavened conscience. The conference integrates perspectives from Jungian psychology and contemporary spiritual direction in four sessions:

Session One: Contemplative Consciousness in an Age of Pandemic - this is a Kairos moment.  We will explore the meaning of consciousness related to the ego, the Self, and to the emerging collective consciousness.

Session TwoContemplative Conscience in Jungian understanding. The ‘super-ego’ form of conscience and the ethical form of Conscience.

Session Three: Revolution, Collective Consciousness, and the process of breaking open.

Session Four:  Contemplative Consciousness and Becoming a Social Mystic. Breakdowns, break-throughs, and the emergence of the Mystical Contemplative.

This offering is now hosted for online access. After purchasing, you will receive an email with supplemental resources and a link to the streaming video.
