Tending the Spirit Together
Spiritual direction is not just for individuals. Sometimes working with a director as part of a group opens a broader sense of how God works in our human lives and world. A married couple might sit in direction together to listen for how the Spirit moves each one in their marriage. Or, a group of unrelated individuals may come together to listen for and support the work of God in each life.
That's 'group spiritual direction.' There's also 'direction of the group spirit.'
God is present in organizations and structures as well as in individual lives. A staff team, for example, might sit with a director to sift out and focus their response to what God is inviting in their church. The question here is how to access and tend the Spirit's movements together in these big structures where many things compete for attention.
Bob Justman reflects here on how his work with the Path of Contemplative Dialogue (PCD) - a primary mode for engaging this corporate work - has affected KVIE, the 'corporate body' where he works.
