Jean Holsten

Jean Holsten is the Director of the Spirit in the Arts Center (SAC), a program of Bread of Life located in a redevelopment area of North Sacramento.  She also loves working with individuals and groups seeking to hear and respond ever more fully to the invitation of God to be of service in the world.

Jean has two primary passions related to her Bread of Life ministry: the first is SAC, a place devoted to exploring and celebrating the intersection of spirituality and art in an environment where all are welcomed as people of sacred worth and value.

Jean’s second love is involvement in the retreat ministry of Bread of Life through which her Contemplative Dialogue work is offered. Her personal study and practice of nonviolence led her to learn the Path of Contemplative Dialogue where she now serves as part of a training group endorsed by the national Centre.  She has offered trainings in this path to business leaders, church leaders, social activists and anyone interested in engaging more meaningful dialogue.

She brings a rich history in working with organizations and groups including experiences as a group facilitator and trainer in her practice as an environmental attorney and with agencies addressing alcohol and drug recovery and abuse prevention.  Her own experience as Director of a Recovery facility led to invitations to train front line staff through top management tiers in ethical and practical considerations of providing services. Most recently she moved into training social activist groups across the United States in using nonviolence as a means to approach persecution and injustice.

Jean Holsten can be reached at the Spirit in the Arts Center, 650 El Camino Ave., Sacramento, CA  95815. Phone: (916) 648-1803.  Email: jean@breadoflife.org.
