Lucie Chalifour

“The sacred duty of being an individual is to gradually learn how to live so as to awaken the eternal within oneself.”
- John O’Donohue

Lucie Chalifour is a layperson in the Catholic Church and has been healthcare worker, a childbirth educator, and a doula – one who companions others along their journeys of birthing and dying. Lucie has a deep understanding of how the sacred rhythms of living and dying can mirror and be integrated within the journey of the heart and soul. Lucie received her training through the Art of Spiritual Direction Internship Program co-sponsored by Bread of Life and Mercy Center. She enjoys guiding meditation as a way of allowing that which is already within, but not yet known, to emerge. She often uses storytelling as a way of inviting us to open our eyes to the extraordinary within the ordinary and perhaps even see ourselves in new ways. Lucie offers direction for small groups as well as individuals. She is mother to five grown children.

Lucie is available to serve as a facilitator or consultant for:

One day retreats and extended groups for church-related as well as non-religious groups.  Some recent experiences and topics include:

Sabbath Days
Time away to nourish body and soul typically begins with scripture and small group sharing from a question related to the text. Other processes in the day might include times of meditation and visualization, lectio divina (a method of slow, sacred reading of holy texts) and lots of silence for quiet reflection, walking, journalling, and art.  Bringing what emerges back to the community in a way that fits the person brings the time of Sabbath rest full circle.

Friendship as Soulpath
The art of friendship as a means of awakening to the Holy One who resides ‘in-between’ us as well as within and among us is the theme of this weekend retreat. This retreat uses all the methods described in the Sabbath Day description.

Story Circles
Story circles combine the best of group spiritual direction with the stories of our lives through the lens of classic children’s stories. Spiritual tradition has long recognized that childlike receptivity allows deeper connection to what is most precious within and among us. From the place of no-judgment it becomes possible to listen to that which wants to come to consciousness in us for our own sakes and for the sake of the world. The use of creative media and times of silence and sharing are part of the process.  Best in an eight week series as a way of building the community and the practice to new depths of relationship.
